The Mental Health Warrior Challenge Coin serves as a tangible symbol of strength and resilience on the journey toward building strong mental health and triumphing over our life’s challenges. But as I like to say, talk is cheap without proof. So today I want to offer you 10 ways I have used the Warrior Coin to support my journey through my day’s challenges, including the always present challenges of Bipolar, Alcohol Recovery, Anxiety Disorders and PTSD.
But this is not a tale of woe but one of opportunity and triumph, as I revel in the power that the Mental Health Warrior Coin, in my hand or pocket, brings to the day!
Tip 1 - Morning Affirmation:
I often begin my day by holding the Challenge Coin and reciting a personal affirmation. One that reinforces the strength, and determination that I have within myself as a warrior, to face the day's challenges head-on. I personally find great strength in saying out loud the warrior creed to remind myself that I will “Bend Not Break” when challenges arise. This new path prevents me from being overwhelmed, while building a path to triumph at the same time.
Tip 2 - Centering Meditation:
During moments of stress or when I feel overwhelmed, I grab the Challenge Coin and use it as a focal point for a short meditation. When you hold it in your hand, close your eyes, and take a deep breath. This helps me to regain focus and calmly reengage with the day. This mirrors the advice of Mindset Rule 2 “Respond Not React to Life’s Challenges”, which is so important that it is on the back of one of the coins, to remind us to follow this empowering wisdom.
Tip 3 - Decision-Making Token:
When faced with decisions, flip the Challenge Coin as a decision-making token. Assign each side a choice, and let fate guide your decision. This adds an element of lightheartedness to the decision-making process. Now a word of caution, as do not use this to make big life changing decisions but save it for when you just need a gentle push to make a choice and not become locked in “Analysis Paralysis!”
Tip 4 - Reflective Journaling:
Incorporate the Challenge Coin into your reflective journaling practice. Write about the thoughts and emotions that arise when holding the coin, emphasizing your growth and victories as a mental health warrior. This really works and remember that journaling does not need to be complicated. Use just a scrap of paper, for the act of writing brings the pause and focus our brains need to process the day’s emotions.
Tip 5 - Gratitude Token:
Designate the Mental Health Warrior Challenge Coin as your gratitude token. Hold it while expressing gratitude for positive aspects of your life. This practice enhances appreciation and shifts focus toward the positive. This also helps us stop a downward spiral into depression, for it brings to our attention that amazing commitment that we have made to our life by becoming Mental Health Warriors!
Tip 6 - Mindful Breathing Exercise:
Often, I combine the Challenge Coin with mindful breathing exercises. Simply hold the coin in your palm, focus on its texture, and take slow, deliberate breaths. Use this as a grounding practice in moments of stress or when your thoughts are racing. Very effective and discrete, which makes it the perfect warrior tool for any situation!
Tip 7 - Visual Cue for Boundaries:
Place the Challenge Coin on your desk or workspace as a visual cue for establishing boundaries. When faced with distractions or excessive workload, glance at the coin to remind yourself to prioritize self-care. This works for both personal and work tasks, as it brings clarity out of the hectic pace of the day.

In challenging situations, use the Mental Health Warrior Challenge Coin as an empowerment gesture. Hold it tightly in your hand to evoke a sense of strength and resilience, reinforcing your identity as a mental health warrior. During meals, place the Challenge Coin on the table as a mindful eating token. Let it remind you to savor each bite, fostering a connection between the act of eating and your overall well-being. This powerful combination of gratitude and opportunity to delight in the wise food choices we make as warriors, that builds strong mental health.
Tip 10 - Evening Reflection Ritual:
End your day with an evening reflection ritual. Hold the Challenge Coin and reflect on the triumphs and challenges you encountered. You can also use this practice to acknowledge your growth, as you realize the challenges you face today, you may not have been able to manage prior to becoming a warrior. That recognition must not go unnoticed!

By integrating it into your daily life, you can create meaningful rituals that reinforce your identity as a mental health warrior and strengthen your ability to triumph over any challenge that comes your way.
